Health Dot Com

Asking questions about health can be awkward. Fortunately, you can find answers to the mysteries of mind, body, and soul with just a click of the mouse. Whether you’re worried about a zit that won’t go away or need good information about birth control FAST, there’s a website that can help.

Be careful, though. As with everything else online, it’s important to find sites that are reliable, reputable, and safe. Here are a few we recommend:

iEmily.com

www.iemily.com: iEmily calls itself “the place for girls’ health,” and it sure is. Covering body (from illnesses to sex), mind (from ADD to depression), and lifestyle (from healthy recipes to alternative therapies), iEmily has information on just about any concern you may have. Wondering what nonoxynol-9 is? Check out the dictionary page. Want to know how other teens have handled challenges like eczema, cutting, or the death of a close friend? Go to My Story, where girls share their experiences.

CoolNurse.com

www.coolnurse.com: Who wouldn’t want a cool nurse to guide them through teen life? Worried about abnormal periods? Take a look at Gyn Health. Go to Sex Stuff for the 411 on sexual orientation, STDs, and sperm cells. Use the tips on healthy food and exercise for a wellness makeover without a prescription! (This site does have a lot of ads, but we think the information is worth it.)

www.youngwomenshealth.org: This colorful, easy-to-navigate site powered by the Children’s Hospital League offers not just information but interactivity. Wondering how much you know about vaccines, nutrition, or safety? Take a quiz. Want personal information from health care professionals? Sign up for one of the online chats. The site is also bilingual: it offers a long list of health guides in English and Spanish.

www.kidshealth.org/teen: We know you’re not a kid anymore, but this site’s teen section has lots to offer. Drugs & Alcohol, Food & Fitness: it’s all here. How reliable is the five second rule? Find out. Having trouble studying? Don’t sweat it! Learn useful study tips so you can sleep better at night.
