What YOU Can Do To Help Stop Global Warming!

Do you feel like there is nothing you can do to fight global warming? Well, carbon dioxide enters the air from many common places, like our own homes. Here are some everyday ways you can decrease the amount of CO 2 you release into the air. Visit stopglobalwarming.org and find out how much carbon dioxide you can reduce by doing these simple things.

  • Fill ‘er up ! If you have a dishwasher, run it only when it is completely filled. Use recycled paper! Make sure your paper products are previously recycled. This will save trees and minimize waste.
  • Shorter is sweeter. Did you know that showers account for 2/3 of all water heating costs? You don’t need a half-hour shower to get clean. Start taking shorter showers.
  • And then there was light. Figure out which are the five most frequently used light bulbs in your house and replace them with compact fluorescent energy-saving bulbs (the swirly kind).
  • Not using it? Unplug it! Just because your computer is turned off, doesn’t mean it’s not using energy. Remove plugs from their sockets when not in use. The layered look is in.
  • Chilly? Put on a Sweater! Take out a blanket or dress in layers instead of turning up the heat on the thermostat.
  • Pass it on!!! Tell family and friends that energy efficiency is good for their homes and good for the environment because it lowers CO 2 emissions and air pollution. Tell five people. Together we can save the Earth.

Take a Look Around You

Nadira, 16
Maryland

Take a look around you.
What do you see?
Just danger, harm,
a catastrophe.

Take a look around you.
What do you see?
The Earth being harmed so badly,
which also harms you and me.

Take a look around you.
What do you see?
Smoke in the air,
pollution in the sea.

Take a look around you.
What do you see?
The understanding of people,
hope is a growing seed.

Take a look around you.
What do you see?
Slowly, people coming together,
working in harmony.

But is that you, is it me,
striving for harmony?
